Here is a little tutorial to create (without any sewing machine for once) a pell-mell, with a frame made of an old tray, to hang pictures, notes, lists ... nicely.
The frame is made of wood, and I found it out of an old tray, which bottom was made of straw, had water on it, then became mildewed. So I took out the bottom and kept the frame for a latter use. Of course, you can create the same thing either without a frame, or with a painting frame.

To create this decoration and practical object, you will need :
  • A frame
  • Stiff cardboard (a little bit smaller than the frame, so that once the fabric will be in place it will still fit the frame)
  • Fabric for the bottom (about 3 inches larger than the cardboard)
  • Felt or fleece (the same size as the cardboard)
  • Matching ribbon
  • Glue gun
  • Pins
Step 1 :
Glue the fabric on the back side of the frame, folding the edges to create a hem. Take attention to your fingers, or as I read it a few days ago, don't forget to keep a bowl full of water close to you.

Step 2 :
Using pins, fix briefly the ribbons on the back of the frame, creating diagonals, then create smaller diagonals. Glue the ribbon pieces to the back of the cardboard. You might add a bit of glue above the ribbon.

Step 3 :
Using pins, fix your cardboard to the back of the frame, turn it around, and admire your work !

You can now fill it with postcards, pictures, cards.... or whatever you want.
